We decided to call him "Doc".
Doc is a neighborhood dog whose owner rather neglected him.
Over the past year or so he hung around the Doobers, going hunting and such.
I would chase him away from the house since I knew he had a home.
Recently his owner's house started looking abandoned, so I decided to see if he (the dog) was hungry.
He was scared of me since I was always chasing him away so it took a couple of days for me to call him in.
He desparately wanted attention and was very hungry, covered with ticks and had intestinal parasites (tape worms).
The next two nights he came around to eat and then the next day he moved in.
He is a good dog in that he likes attention, responds to commands, accepts handling, etc. He also likes to schmooze. He is schmoozing as I write this.
I put flea/tick medicine on him right away and gave him worming pills several days later.
It took two weeks for all the tick bite scabs to heal and come off.
I was amazed that he does not know how to play. He was mystified by a bouncing tennis ball.
Also, he wades but doesn't swim. Wierd since I am used to Labs.
I am taking him to the vet tomorrow to get shots.
